Dr. Jean and I recently visited our daughter, Dr. Rachel!! She is practicing in Omaha while her fiancé is in medical residency. We were walking through a lovely park in downtown Omaha when we came upon a dog park. Oddly enough, the dogs were running around having a blast and the owners stood there watching.

What was funny was that half of the owners were smoking and the other half seemed to be on their phone. Sometimes it is hard to understand why we are the ones in charge of the planet! We then contemplated what if dogs had human parks and took us to work out. Maybe we’d use it more.

It is all a frame of mind. I get certain shoes on and my dog, Remi, goes bizerk! Wednesdays he doesn’t give me the time of day because he knows it is a walk day with Dr Jean. If I put deer hunting closes on he goes and pouts. He sees anything with bird hunting and there is uncontrollable whining and excitement.

As humans we tend to look at exercise as just another task. A “have to” instead of a “get to” like a dog perceives exercise.

Explore different activities and find something you love so that you are motivated to stick with it and enjoy it. I highly recommend something outside if you can because the outdoors offer so many more benefits. Fresh air for the soul, sun for the vitamin D, and the effects it has on your natural rhythms.

Find your exercise and go for it!  Movement is key to good aging and it doesn’t take much for life extension gains. Just 30 minutes three to four times a week. Start with 10 minutes and get in the habit. SHSHSHSHSH-I don’t want to hear it. If I have time, you have time. Just make the time and all of a sudden you will have more time than you had before because you get more efficient.

So take off you collar and unleash your mobile self.

It is the best way to keep your body mobile and strong. Use it or lose it.

Woof!
