Dear Friends,
Have you ever taken a hike on the Ice Age Trail? It’s incredible right? If you haven’t, get out there this fall because it is stunning in Autumn. Not only because of the vibrant colors, but the ability to view the kettles steep depressions because of the fallen leaves.
The ice age trail travels 1,200 miles across the state and marks where the last glacier stopped. When that massive glacier stopped moving and melted it deposited a massive pile of rocks.
Ok Mr. geography, what the heck does this have to do with my health?
A lot actually! The main rock deposited is limestone based, meaning it has a lot of calcium in it. When water precipitates through this soil it takes some Ca+ with it, which means we have a lot of calcium in our well water. Which is why I have to decalcify my showered a couple times a year and why we need water softeners in our area.
Calcium is the number one micronutrient in our bodies. We know it is a vital component in bone (99% of the calcium in our body is in our bones) but that 1% of Ca+ not in our bone is a vital nutrient for countless biological functions. Not all calcium is created equal but lucky for us, the most absorbable and usable calcium is calcium bicarbonate, the form which is in our well water in Sheboygan County and the whole ice age trail area.
Calcium lactate is the non dissolved form of this calcium and it only takes one reaction to turn into the usable calcium bicarbonate. (Calcium carbonate which is in most calcium supplements takes 18 steps to become usable and you only absorb about 10% – the rest goes out the poop shoot). Calcium lactate is so important to biological functions that it is the number one nutrient by bulk used through the SP line. It is in almost every combination product. In fact, this form of calcium is very calming to the nervous system.
Min-Tran, our number one selling supplement, is actually half calcium lactate/magnesium and half sea kelp/alfalfa. It stands for mineral tranquilizer and no, it won’t put you face down in a puddle of drool! But it is calming because it feeds the parasympathetic nervous system which puts you into a rest and digest state vs sympathetic system which is fight or flight.
Have you ever wondered why Wisconsin is the dairy state? Because the cows are drinking water loaded with calcium and eating alfalfa loaded with calcium and other calming nutrients. No farmer wants to milk a wild cow. Those cows become burgers (:
That’s why race horses are raised in Kentucky where they have lots of phosphorous and other minerals that are stimulating. No race horses are raised here in Wisconsin because they would be too mellow. Not many dairies in Kentucky. Bourbon? Yes! Dairies? Not so much.
This is why Min-Tran is so popular with our patients because it aids in calming muscles and nervous system. It also helps keep blood pressure lower, calming anxiety and calming a racing mind. It’s a darn good source of iodine, which we address in the next newsletter.
See you are what you eat!
Actually we’ll take it one step further-: you are what you eat, ate and drank!
God Bless,
Dr. Dan
*Min-Tran dosage is 2-3 a day for general health or as needed 3 for cramping, sleep aid, or anxiety . Swallowing it will be calming within 20 – 30 minutes. If chewed it can be active within minutes. (I carry it in races in case I cramp). It is one that should be on the shelf for the times when you need it.
