- Elect and Reflect
Dear Friends,
2024 is the 10th time I have had the privilege of voting in a presidential election. When I first started voting, I heard a quote from a commentator that I find more appropriate with each election cycle: “My happiness is not determined by who wins elections.”
In the 10 elections over the last 40 years, 5 have been won by Democrats and 5 have been won by Republicans. If you vote along party lines and your happiness IS dependent on the party in power, that means you will be happy about half the time! Ugh! That’s a quick way to piss your life’s happiness away. I’ve even heard people talk about how they hope whatever party is in power fails. Hmm…how does that strengthen you as a citizen?
That reminds me of one of my first patients when I moved here (8 election cycles ago). I walked in the room and the woman had her arms crossed and lips pursed as she looked me right in the eye and said “I’ll have you know, I don’t believe in chiropractic!!!” Almost as if she was going to prove I couldn’t help her.
I smiled and said “Two things. Number one, chiropractic isn’t a religion so no need to believe in it. Second, if you don’t believe in chiropractic and you are sitting in a chiropractic office, that tells me all other options have failed. So you may want to start rooting for me!”
She became one of my best referring patients.
Life and health are a bit like politics. There are ups and downs for sure. But I feel when you live balanced and moderate, your peaks and valleys aren’t as steep. I’d encourage you to use this upcoming holiday season to seek unity instead of letting perceived differences fester. Get involved in your local community. Take a break from polarizing new sources and talk with the real people sitting across the table from you. You’ll see we fundamentally yearn for the same things out of life.
Remember to have faith in your God, not in your politicians.
For Republicans we recommend Ashwagandha – it will help mellow you out and bring you softly down from your high.
For Democrats we recommend Kava – the herb to help you step away from the edge.
God Bless,
Dr. Dan
