Dear Friends,
Mindset.
This sounds like a very concrete word. My mind is set. It implies, “I am right, and I will not budge.” I envision someone digging their feet in for a fight. There are obvious times when this is the best stance. Without the Greatest Generation having the mindset that they were going to stop Hitler’s aggression, we could all be speaking German right now.
But in reality, mindset can—and should—be fluid. I spend most of my time helping people shift from a rigid thought process to one filled with endless possibilities. Where your mind is oriented right now may change as the circumstances around you change. On both an individual and societal scale, mindset should adapt; otherwise, there would be no progress.
Let’s say two patients come in to see me. I take X-rays, and these X-rays show that both patients have arthritis. One patient finds this out and reacts as though their life is over. The other says, “Okay—how and what can I do to get better?” Notice how, when faced with the same situation, differing mindsets send one patient into a spiral of despair while the other is resolved to improve and come out stronger.
Dr. Casey Means, an M.D. by training, has written a book titled Good Energy. She presents health in a very practical way and provides great advice on taking control of your destiny.
One of her quotes really resonated with me. She wrote: “Your body is NOT a THING. It is a PROCESS.” Do you grasp how liberating that is? This means you are not set where you are, but rather that you can always change. That change can be for the better or the worse—and it almost always happens slowly and insidiously. Truly, you are an expression of the sum of all your lifestyle habits, with a sprinkling of your genetic predispositions.
I’ve said this before: there is one constant in life, and that is change. Life becomes very difficult when you try to stay set in a world of change. You’ll end up in a world of hurt.
So take a step back and ask yourself: how can you make your mindset more flexible—in mind, body, and spirit?
Ashwagandha Forte and Ashwagandha Complex are our supplements of the week because they are adaptogens. They help your body adapt to the constant change we’re all exposed to. Their beauty lies in meeting your body where it’s at and help bring it into a more balanced state. If you need calming, they’ll support that. If you need energy, they’ll help rev you up. Adaptogens help bring you to that Goldilocks stage of “just right.”
Get ready, SET, go!
