Dear Friends,
Patients often ask me which organ in the body is the most important. It is kind of a silly question in that they all serve a purpose, otherwise God wouldn’t have put them there.
Now, you can live without some of your organs, but to live optimally you want them all. For example, you can live without your gallbladder BUT you will tend to struggle with digesting fats (both good and bad). You can remove your appendix, your spleen, even parts of your stomach and intestines. Heck, you can even survive on one kidney or one lung. Removing one of these organs isn’t a light decision; more often than not it is a life-saving trade-off. Obviously, these are not optimal circumstances, but your body is smart, resilient, and will adapt.
Then, there is the liver. You can’t spell “liver” without “LIVE”. An extreme example: You could be brain dead, and a medical team could keep the rest of your organs working. Not so without the liver.
The liver is like a roundabout in the body through which almost every metabolic pathway passes. The liver detoxifies the blood, aids in digestion, directs sugar and energy metabolism, provides immune support, and helps combat inflammation…the healthier your liver is, the better your body functions as a whole.
The liver is also an incredibly resilient and regenerative organ. What does that mean? It means you can beat the heck out of it, and it will regenerate if you change your ways! Like the old TIMEX watch commercial slogan said, “It takes a licking and keeps on ticking.” However, that doesn’t mean that your liver can’t reach a point of no return. If you use and abuse your liver relentlessly, it can turn from a trusty ol’ watch to a ticking time bomb.
You might be asking yourself: What can I do to support my hardworking liver? One of our favorite tools is the SP Detox Balance Shake. Formulated with organic whole foods and herbs, this shake provides concentrated nutrients that help the main detoxification organs – liver, kidneys, and bowels – clear waste and toxins and repair themselves.
The truth is, detoxification is a natural process that is happening 24/7/365 in your body. SP Detox Balance adds nutrients in bulk to give these pathways a boost, and diet modifications decrease incoming toxins so that your body progresses faster.
You can help your body detoxify any time, but we find a great opportunity to kick start these processes is, of course, the new year! Mark your calendars for Wednesday, January 15th – we will be hosting our annual detox talk in the office that evening. The SP Detox Balance program is an effective way to build a foundation for layering better habits. And you have options: Detox with the shake or without and simply follow the dietary guidelines. Follow the 10 day or 28 day programs, or talk to me about any variation in between. This link provides an additional month of support from Standard Process.
Wondering if the SP Detox program is right for you? Stop by our office and fill out a toxicity questionnaire, or fill out the questionnaire (page 22) at home. If your overall score exceeds 40, you may benefit from a well-rounded detoxification!
God Bless,
Dr. Dan
