Askhole (Noun) – a person who constantly asks for your advice, yet always does the opposite of what you told them

A patient gave me a card with this definition on it the other day and I thought it was hilarious. We get this a lot in our clinic and it is actually funny because we know when someone is really vested and wants to change.  We can also tell when they really have not bought in.

Admittedly, I have done this with a few things myself!

But really, your typical “askhole” when it comes to health is someone who just has not fully committed to the idea they are asking about. It is tough with the internet and social media because everyone is telling you their way is the only way. Right? Wrong.

We are all different but below are a few keys to success when making lifestyle changes:

  1. Be patient- doing the right thing for the wrong time will yield poor results. It’s funny how people can eat crappy for 30 years and want their body shape and function to change in two weeks.
  2. Do your research but understand everything you read and see is not true.
  3. Understand what works for someone else may not be what works for you.
  4. Be honest with what motivates you.
  5. Did I say be patient?!

One thing I have learned is that everyone operates on their own time and they also are all motivated differently. Our job is to keep answering your questions and giving you information to empower you with your health decisions. When you are ready and motivated then action will follow.

Until then ask away we make no judgements : )
